Before starting my gallery I thought at length about how to face the problem of having my pictures printed satisfactorily, and how to contain as much as possible the shipping costs and times.
\nOf course I\u2019ve checked on the other print-on-demand sites, and I was appalled by their shipment costs. Not their fault though: shipping halfway around the world (or even closer than that) a valuable print or painting, complete with bulky frame and glass, duly padded and boxed up, just cannot be cheap.
\nThus I couldn\u2019t help thinking that if you get the bare print, go to the next Walmart or whatever, buy a ready-made frame of your liking and fit the size with a fine passepartout, you spend at most one third of that.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And how about the processing times?<\/h2>\n

Oh, they are terrible\u2026<\/em> printing an A3+ format (48×33 cm \/ 13×19 in.) takes at least a couple of minutes<\/strong>, and up to that size my faithful printer does a really great job, even on the high-quality, high-grammage paper I\u2019m offering you.
\nCan you wait that long? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

But the most important side of doing the printing myself is that I can make sure that the colors are exactly the way I want them<\/strong>. Which would not be possible if I used an outsourcing printing service where, apart from that, the waiting time can reach or even exceed one week.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Et voil\u00e0, in about a quarter of an hour I\u2019m ready to ship.<\/p>\n

How do you keep the shipment cost reasonable without sacrificing tracking and insurance?<\/h2>\n

That\u2019s a challenge for a small entrepreneur: quite obviously I cannot compete with larger organizations having dependances all around the world to reduce the shipping times and costs, and dispensing with courier <\/strong>and tracking <\/strong>would be a very expensive way to save money.
\nNevertheless, by looking around and wrestling long with weights, shapes, and sizes, I eventually found a surprisingly cheap combination at DHL, a courier that so far proved really fast and reliable worldwide.
\nAs for the delivery time, in my experience within Germany it\u2019s normally one day, and within the EU 2-4 days depending on the destination country.
\nI guess that outside of the EU it would take some longer, but not really much: although my experience of intercontinental shipment is limited, from China to Germany it usually doesn\u2019t take longer than one week \u2013 customs formalities included.<\/p>\n

Last but not least: as the prints travel in a cardboard tube (the cheapest and safest way), shipping a single print or several together doesn\u2019t affect the shipping cost.<\/p>\n
